Critical reception

Max has been out for a week now, and that mean it is time to catch up on the first reviews.

Overall we are very happy with the reviews we have got read this far! Max right now sports a metacritic on 77, which we are very happy about, and many of the reviewers also seem to have had a lot of fun playing the game. We have collected some of the reviews and link to them from the “Press page”.

And for the danish audience, check out Troldspejlets review – a childhood dream of ours to see our game there!

Get Max & the Magic Marker for FREE!

If you are one of those people who think spending 1000 Wii points on a game like Max is way too much. Do not worry!
In October Nintendo announced the Connection Ambassador Program, handing out free Wii points to both those who help others getting their Wii hooked up and the people who get helped. It’s a win-win situation.

The system works like this: Help a friend connect his Wii to WiiWare. Click the “Connection Ambassador Program”-button and type in each others Friend codes. And voila! you are both now 500 points richer!
If you still think it is too much, just find another friend and you will get Max for free!

Confirmed: Max for PC & Mac

This weekend German publisher TGC – The Games Company announced in a German press release that they will publish Max & the Magic Marker for PC in Europe.

As we do not want to stand back of our German publisher we hereby announce (or perhaps confirm), that Max & the Magic Marker indeed will be coming to PC and Mac. We ourselves will make it available worldwide through digital download from this site as well as from Direct2Drive, Impulse and GamersGate.

The PC / Mac version is a solid stand-alone build of the game. Apart from the obvious higher resolution graphics it has the same feature set as the WiiWare™ version.

“It’s the Fiiiiiinal Countdoooooown…”!

This is it! The last week has been crazy. Especially because we finally got to see how people responded to the demo where they actually got to play around with the core mechanic. It has been great to watch how people have come up with their own solutions to the final puzzle. That is precisely what we aimed for when we chose to focus on free drawing and creativity.
Finally, tonight at 12:00pm Max & the Magic Marker will hit WiiWare in Europe and we can’t wait.

On WiiWare Europe, January 22nd!

Finally, we are proud to announce that Max & the Magic Marker will hit WiiWare in Europe, Australia and New Zealand on January 22nd. The price will be 1.000 Wii Points. It’s been a long journey and we are happy that we are now closing in on the big day.

To celebrate the awesome news we bring you a brand new trailer showing footage from the final game:

Hint: come by again tomorrow to try a short online demo of our game!

2010 – the year of Max

So, THIS will be the year Max & the Magic Marker finally releases :-)

Seriously, we are closing in on release dates, but as you know we can’t yet disclose anything in this regard, so let’s not even go there.

So, the IGF Award. We are of course sad that we didn’t make it to any of the finals, but we will be back next year with delicious indie stuff. For now let us instead throw a big applause to our neighbors  and lunch buddies from Playdead, whos game “Limbo” made the finals for “Technical Excellence” and “Excellence in Visual Arts”.

Back to Max: Destructoid wrote up a combined interview and preview article about Max. It is both nice and informative – you should all read it :-)

The same goes for gamer.no’s positive preview – but be warned, it is in Norwegian.
