A Pretty Good Day…

unityawards

The 30th October 2009 was a pretty good day for Mikkel, director and lead programmer on Max & the Magic Marker. Not only had he taken the day off, he also married Louise and the same night – so late that the date had changed in Copenhagen – his game won the Unity Award for Best Overall Game.

So this morning he woke up (hung over) to the wonderful news that Max & the Magic Marker at the Unity Awards show in San Francisco last night, not only won the Best Game prize but also was a runner up in the Best Technical Achievement category as well as a finalist in Best Visual Design category. Check out the other proud winners on Unitys website.

We are of course very proud and this is a great opportunity to thank Unity for the prize as well as for providing the most awesome game development tool out there!

And the Nominees are…

games-award_top_2009

The European Innovative Games Award, has announced the nominees for this year’s awards, and Max & the Magic Marker is one of them. Along with great games like Ronimo’s Swords & Soldiers, Max will be competing in the category “Innovative Game Design”.  If we don’t win, we hope they do.
The ceremony will be in Frankfurt next Friday, wish us luck…

Be like Max

max-tshirts-groupInspired by P. Diddy Press Play is now not only a game developer, but also the proud owner of a fashion line. To be more precise, we’ve made a bunch of t-shirts to give away when we meet someone we like or as prizes in contests. We still need to figure out what sort of contests, so if you have a good idea, please let us know.

The plan now is to take it even further. Perhaps by doing like Beyoncé or Christina Aguilera and make a Max fragrance. I’m not quite sure what it should smell like…
Have a nice weekend!

New video: The Art Style

In this fourth episode of “The Making of Max” video series, Lead Artist Lasse Outzen talks about the visual style of the game. So if you have questions like “why are the worlds so cliché?”, or “what is this crude scribble mode I’ve seen in the trailer?”, watch it and get the answers!

Enjoy!

The Making of Max – 3: Mike talks about design

This is the 3rd video goind behind the scenes in the making of Max. In this one the fabulous Mike Akopyan talks about the design process and how different key issues have been handled.
