El monstro púrpuro

The monster with his weapon

No game is complete without a villain, and in “Max and the Magic Marker” the role of opponent is played by a big, moustache-ioed purple monster. Like many evil enemies in history, the monster is a child of the protagonist’s own brain.

Max accidentally drew the monster using the magic marker and now it is running amok in his drawings. Here’s a fresh concept drawing of the monster.

The monster has brainwashed Max’s drawn friends to act as enemies in the game. Max needs to save them and ultimately defeat the monster itself. Go Max!

Design Workshop

Today we had a level design workshop. The aim was to build a number of levels and make sure the puzzles are presented in the right order, so the game also is fun in the end and that it’s not too difficult to begin with.  We worked with paper, pencil and crayons to ensure that the focus was on putting the puzzles in the right order rather than making them “work”.

To help us out we had invited Asger Strandby, who not only was an intern at Press Play in the spring, but also is a part of Analogik – the creators of the music in the game. His quirky brain is a great asset in a workshop like this.
We ended up having a nice overview of the game, and also a gut feeling telling us that we are moving in the right direction.
